While most folks are curled up by the woodstove with a second pot of coffee, things look a little different here at The Seed Guy®. When the north wind starts howling and the snowdrifts start piling up against the warehouse doors, that’s when the "Seed Guy Hustle" really kicks into high gear!

You see, we don’t just "sell" seeds—we steward them. And in mid-February, that means braving the elements to make sure that when the first thaw hits your backyard, you aren't standing there with an empty hand and a "Sold Out" sign on your screen. It’s a labor of love, and today, I’m pulling back the curtain to show you exactly what it takes to get those packets from our frozen doorstep to your mailbox.

The Winter Warehouse "To-Do" List

  • Defying the Drifts: It starts with a shovel. Before the mail truck even thinks about pulling up, I’m out there clearing the path. We take "Priority Shipping" seriously—if the truck can get through, your Survival Seed Packages are going out!

  • The Precision Count: Inside, the air is crisp, but the coffee is hot. We are hand-checking inventory on favorites like the Yellow Sweet Spanish Onion and the Blue Lake Bush Beans. We don't use "big-box" robots; we use eyes, hands, and a commitment to quality.

  • The "Seed Armor" Difference: While many companies still use flimsy paper packets, we know that moisture and light are the enemies of your future harvest. That’s why we use heavy-duty 4-mil ziplock bags. They are thick, airtight, and offer a level of protection paper simply can't provide. We tuck those into a jumbo 10" x 14" Mylar bag sealed for shipment with Security Tape, giving you the best of both worlds: professional-grade protection and the ability to inspect every single seed before you decide to heat-seal the Mylar for long-term storage.

  • The Prayer for the Journey: It might sound old-fashioned, but as I’m labeling those boxes, I’m thinking about the families on the other end. Whether you're in sunny Florida or frozen Montana, we’re sending a little piece of our heart with every order.

Why We Brave the Cold

People ask me why I don't just shut down for the winter. The answer is simple:  Hunger doesn't wait, and neither does the spirit of independence. We work in the snow so you can harvest in the sun. It’s about more than just a transaction; it’s about a handshake through the mail. When you buy from The Seed Guy®, you're supporting grit, grace, and a little bit of frost on the boots.

So, the next time you hear the mail carrier drop that package on your porch, just know it’s been through a blizzard to get there! We’re honored to be your partner in the dirt. Stay warm, stay faithful, and let's get ready for spring.
