Clemson Spineless Okra – The "Tried and True" American Classic for Heavy Yields and Tender, Pain-Free Harvesting

Shop the highest quality Clemson Spineless Okra seeds for a prolific summer garden. When gardeners talk about okra, Clemson Spineless is the variety that everyone knows and loves. Developed by Clemson University in 1939, this variety revolutionized okra growing because it removed the irritating "spines" found on older varieties, allowing for a much more comfortable harvest. At The Seed Guy, we recommend this heirloom because it is incredibly reliable, producing an abundance of straight, dark green, ribbed pods that stay tender even when they reach 3 inches in length.

In the garden, Clemson Spineless is a sun-loving giant that thrives in the heat of summer. It is a fantastic companion plant for peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants, and its beautiful hibiscus-like flowers make it a stunning addition to any landscape. The more you harvest, the more it produces! Whether you are frying it, using it to thicken a hearty gumbo, or pickling it for a crunchy treat, this variety delivers consistent quality every time. At The Seed Guy, our seeds are tested for elite germination and heat vigor, ensuring your okra patch is the most productive one in the county.

Clemson Spineless Okra Planting Instructions:

1. When to Plant: Okra loves heat! Sow outdoors only when the soil has warmed to at least 70°F and all danger of frost has passed.

2. Preparation: To speed up germination, soak seeds in warm water for 12-24 hours before planting. Choose a site with full sun and well-drained soil.

3. Sowing: Plant seeds 1/2 to 1 inch deep. Once seedlings are 3 inches tall, thin them to 12-18 inches apart.

4. Care: Water regularly during dry spells, but avoid waterlogging the soil. Mulching helps retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest pods when they are 2-3 inches long for the best texture.

5. Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for Aphids and Stink Bugs. Root-knot nematodes can sometimes be an issue in sandy soils; if this occurs, practice strict crop rotation. To prevent verticillium wilt, ensure your soil has good drainage and avoid planting where tomatoes or peppers grew the previous year.
