Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach – The "Heritage Green" for Thick, Crinkled Leaves and Farm-Fresh Nutrition

Shop the highest quality Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach seeds and bring a timeless garden classic to your family table. When it comes to a dependable, dark-green spinach, Bloomsdale is the "Standard of Excellence." This 19th-century heirloom is famous for its heavy, savoyed (crinkled) leaves that hold dressings perfectly and provide a rich, nutty flavor. At The Seed Guy, we believe we aren't just selling seeds; we are selling the Saturday morning in the garden with the grandkids, teaching them how to harvest their first greens, and the pride of a "Blue Ribbon" harvest that fuels your family with health.

In the garden, Bloomsdale is an "old reliable" that handles the transition from spring to summer better than almost any other variety because it is slow to bolt. This means you get a longer harvest window to "get your salad on" with leaves that stay sweet and tender even as the days grow longer. It is a fantastic companion plant for strawberries and brassicas, acting as a nutrient-dense living mulch. At The Seed Guy, our seeds are tested for elite germination, ensuring you get a lush carpet of deep green leaves that look beautiful in the garden and taste even better in a fresh balsamic salad or sautéed with garlic.

Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach Planting Instructions:

1. When to Plant: Spinach loves the cool "shoulder seasons." Sow outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. For a fall crop, sow again in late summer.

2. Preparation: Spinach thrives in nitrogen-rich, well-draining soil. Work in plenty of compost before planting. It prefers a slightly "sweet" soil, so if yours is acidic, a little garden lime can help.

3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep. If you want a "cut and come again" harvest, you can sow them thickly in a wide band. For larger, individual plants, space them 3-4 inches apart.

4. Care: Keep the soil consistently moist. If spinach gets thirsty, it will think it's time to go to seed! Mulching with straw helps keep the roots cool and prevents soil from splashing onto those beautiful crinkled leaves.

5. Pests and Diseases: Leaf miners can occasionally be a nuisance; using row covers is an easy fix. Harvest the outer leaves first to allow the center to keep producing, or harvest the whole plant once it reaches 6 inches.
