Jack O'Lantern Pumpkin – The "Halloween Hero" for Perfect Porch Displays and Spooky Family Fun

Shop the highest quality Jack O'Lantern Pumpkin seeds to ensure your home is the star of the neighborhood this autumn. When it comes to the ultimate carving experience, this variety is the "Masterpiece Maker." Specifically bred to be the perfect size for a child to carry, these pumpkins grow to a uniform 10 to 18 pounds with a classic round-to-oblong shape. At The Seed Guy, we recommend this variety because it offers a smooth, bright-orange surface that is a dream to carve, allowing you to "get your spooky on" with intricate designs that stand out on any porch.

In the garden, Jack O'Lantern is a reliable and hardy variety that produces thick, sturdy stems that act as the perfect "handle" for your finished carvings. The flesh is sweet and fine-grained, making it a "double-threat" variety that is just as good in a pie as it is on a pedestal. It is a fantastic companion plant for sunflowers and radishes, which can help draw pollinators to your pumpkin blossoms. At The Seed Guy, our seeds are tested for elite germination, ensuring you get a bountiful patch of orange gold that will have your family ready for the best Halloween yet.

Jack O'Lantern Pumpkin Planting Instructions:

1. When to Plant: Direct sow in the garden after the soil has warmed to at least 70°F. If you have a short growing season, you can start seeds indoors in peat pots 3 weeks before the last frost, but be careful not to disturb the roots during transplanting.

2. Preparation: Pumpkins love rich, "mucky" soil. Dig a hole and fill it with compost or well-rotted manure before mounding the soil back on top to create your planting hill. This provides a "slow-release" feast for the roots.

3. Sowing: Plant 3 seeds per hill, 1 inch deep. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Once the plants are established, mulch the hill to keep the roots cool and the soil damp.

4. Care: These vines love to climb and sprawl. If you are short on space, you can train them along a sturdy fence. Pollination is key—make sure you have plenty of flowers nearby to attract the bees that will turn your blossoms into pumpkins.

5. Pests and Diseases: Squash Vine Borers are the enemy here. Check the base of the stems regularly for "frass" (sawdust-like material). To prevent powdery mildew, water early in the day so the sun can dry the leaves quickly.
